Cactus and Succulents

Cactus and succulents always seem to get lumped together. Sometimes they couldn't be farther apart. While cactus lovers often love succulents. Most cacti are not winter hardy. But there are cacti that grow as far north as Canada. They are very adaptable to dry climates. A great feature for gardeners that do not like to water. Although beautiful in their own right through distinctive shape most have beautiful flowers that are quite large. Succulents have many winter hardy varieties. Succulents are also very at adaptable to dry climates. Cactus are often listed under succulents.

Angelina Sedum



Sedum Angelina  

  • evergreen, golden yellow needle like foliage that add a reddish fringe in the fall
  • grows 4" to 6" tall
  • very vigorous mat-forming plant
  • prefers well drained soil and to be kept on the dry side
  • does well in a gritty soil
  • looks great in a container
  • needs full sun
  • attracts butterflies and bees
  • disease resistant
  • makes a great groundcover for rocky spots, pots, flagstone terraces, etc.

Yellow Sedum


Sedum nuttallianum - Yellow stonecrop sedum

Yellow sedum is low growing and drought tolerant. All sedum can be planted around rocks. But this one is excellent species for rock gardens. Yellow sedum has a yellow summer bloom and it is how it got its name. This is an evergreen sedum. Grows well in pots with other plants.

Blue Spruce can be grown as a ground cover in flower beds, in pots , or hanging baskets. Drought tolerant. This fast growing perennial  is easy to take care of. Attracts butterflies and bees. Its steel blue color is a good contrast in your garden. Hardy almost everywhere.

Coral Reef can also be used as a ground cover in flower beds, in pots , or hanging baskets. It is easy to take case of and is drought tolerant. Coral reef is hardy in zones 4 through 10. Grows 3 to 6 inches high. Stays green in winter. Grow in sun or part shade.
